Cricut Easy Press Mini
Well if you’re new around here, let me introduce you to my favorite Cricut tool, the Cricut Easy Press Mini! This tool is so easy to use and is the perfect size for most projects. I’ve used it on shoes, hair bows, shirts, pillows, signs and so much more!
Cricut EasyPress Mat, 8″ x 10″
This mat helps protect surfaces and is so convenient for small projects when you don’t feel like pulling out your ironing board.
Cricut Maker
The Cricut Maker is suitable for a wide range of users, from beginners to experienced crafters.
Some of the materials that the Cricut Maker can cut include: Paper and Cardstock, Vinyl, Fabric, Leather, Balsa Wood and BasswoodChipboard, Foam, Acetate, Magnet Sheets and Cork.
Favorite Gold Scissors
These scissors are some of my favorite! Not only do they cut great but I love the look of them.
Cricut Heat Transfer Vinyl
HTV (heat transfer vinyl) is commonly referred to as iron-on. HTV is applied to canvas, fabric, wood, metal and more using heat, such as from a heat press or iron.
Cricut Heat Resistance Tape
The heat resistant tape helps prevent the material from moving or lifting during the heat press or ironing process. It’s important to note that Cricut heat-resistant tape is specifically formulated for compatibility with Cricut machines and materials.
Cricut Cutting Mat
This is the standard mat that is suitable for a wide range of materials, including cardstock, vinyl, and patterned paper.
Cricut Weeding Tool Set
Weeding tools help remove excess material from intricate designs. This is especially important when working with vinyl or iron-on related projects.
How to Customize Canvas Shoes with Cricut Tutorial
Step 1: Design Your Custom Shoe Design Using Cricut Design Space.
Keep in mind the size and shape of your shoes when designing to ensure a perfect fit. I selected the heart in the shapes tab and adjusted the size of the heart to 0.5 inches wide. Given the size of the canvas shoes I’ll be customizing, I’ll be placing 12 hearts on each shoes. Once I select make it, I’ll adjust the quantity to 24.
Step 2: Cut the Heat Transfer vinyl.
Attach your chosen heat transfer vinyl onto the Standard Grip cutting mat shinny side down and make sure to mirror your image.
Mirroring is an essential step in the process of using HTV with a Cricut machine to ensure that the final design is correctly oriented when applied to the fabric. Always check and adjust your settings to mirror the design before cutting when working with heat transfer vinyl.
Step 3: Follow the on-screen instructions to cut your design.
Once cut, use the weeding tools to remove the excess material, leaving only your design on the carrier sheet.
Step 4: Preheat Your Cricut EasyPress Mini.
Plug in your EasyPress Mini and set it to the recommended temperature for the heat transfer material you’re using. Preheat the shoes by running the EasyPress Mini over the areas where you’ll be applying the design.
Step 5: Position and Apply the Design.
Place your weeded design on the preheated canvas shoes, ensuring it is centered and aligned as desired. Use a ruler or measuring tape to make sure the placement is accurate. Once positioned use heat resistant clear tape to secure and press the EasyPress Mini onto the design, applying gentle pressure. Follow the recommended time and temperature settings for your specific heat transfer material.
Step 6: Remove the transfer sheet.
Allow the applied design to cool for a few seconds before carefully peeling off the transfer sheet. If any part of the design lifts with the transfer sheet, press it again with the EasyPress Mini and then attempt to peel the transfer sheet once more.
Step 7: Repeat for Additional Designs.
If you’re adding multiple designs to your shoes, repeat the process for each one. Make sure to allow the previous design to cool completely before applying the next one.
Step 8: Let the Shoes Cure After applying all your designs.
Let the shoes cure for at least 24 hours. This allows the adhesive on the heat transfer material to fully bond with the fabric, ensuring durability and longevity.
